Creality Falcon2 Pro (40W) Review: 7 Months, 260 Jobs, and the Honest Truth
The Creality Falcon2 Pro (40W) is the most machine you can get for the money in an enclosed diode laser right now. It cuts thick wood, it comes with a camera, and it is FDA Class 1 safe. But it has three flaws, and one of them will cost you extra cash on day one.

1. First look at the Creality Falcon2 Pro (40W)
My short answer
Buy it if you cut flat wood and acrylic all day and you want a lid over the laser. Skip it if you need auto focus, clean software on day one, or a pass-through slot. Add $120 to your budget for a real fume fan. That fix turns a good machine into a great one.
What this machine is
The Creality Falcon2 Pro 40W is a desktop diode laser cutter and engraver with a hard shell around it. Eight small 5.5W laser diodes get squeezed into one beam. That gives you 40W of real optical power at the lens. The lid, the sensors, and the door switch earn it an FDA Class 1 rating, so it is the safest kind of laser you can run on a kitchen table.
It sits between the 22W model and the 60W model in the Falcon2 Pro 22W/40W/60W enclosed diode laser engraver family. The 40W spot is the sweet one. You get real cutting muscle without the price jump of the 60W.
Who I am and why I tested this
I run a small sign and gift shop out of a two-car garage. I have owned six lasers since 2019: two open-frame 5W units, a K40 CO2, an xTool D1 Pro, a 22W Falcon2, and now this one. I cut cabinet tags, dog tags, wedding signs, and leather patches. I do not do art pieces for fun. I do jobs with a due date on them.
I bought this Falcon2 Pro 40W with my own money in December 2025. No free unit. No brand deal. That matters. One owner on Reddit made a fair point that most video reviews of this machine were paid for by Creality.

2. Creality Falcon2 Pro 40W specs, unboxing, and price
What is in the box
The box is heavy. Mine weighed just under 25 kg with packing foam. Two people should lift it. Here is what came out:

Price and what it is worth
Creality lists the Falcon2 Pro 40W at $1,899 on the official Falcon store, and it has sat on sale near $1,099 to $1,399 for most of 2026. Amazon bundles with the rotary kit have dipped to about $1,499. In the UK it lands near £1,150. Spanish and German shops list it as the máquina de grabado láser Creality Falcon2 Pro 40W and the Creality Falcon 2 Pro 40W Laser Gravierer, usually between €1,250 and €1,450.
My honest read: at $1,899 it is a hard pass. At $1,199 it is the best power-per-dollar buy in the enclosed diode class. Watch the price, do not pay list.

Home makers with kids or pets
The lid, the key, and the lid switch mean nobody can catch a stray beam. That was my main reason to move off an open-frame unit.

Not for photo engravers
Diode dot size is too fat for gallery-grade photos on wood. A fibre or CO2 machine wins there.
3. Design and build quality
How it looks and feels
It is a grey box with a smoked orange-red lid. Not pretty. Not ugly. It looks like a tool, and I like that. The panels are steel, not plastic, and the whole thing feels dense when you shove it across a bench.
The Creality Falcon2 Pro size is the first thing that shocks people. At 664 × 570 mm it eats a big chunk of a standard 750 mm deep bench. Add the hood on the back and you need close to 800 mm of depth. Measure your table before you order.
The bed is smarter than a honeycomb
Creality skipped the honeycomb and used steel slats over a pull-out drawer. I fought this choice for a week, then I fell for it. Air moves under the part better, so you get less back-scorch on ply. Soot and offcuts drop into the drawer, and I empty it into the bin in five seconds. My old honeycomb bed took 20 minutes with a shop vac and a pick.
The trade-off: thin parts under 30 mm wide can drop between the slats. I keep a scrap piece of 3 mm MDF as a sacrificial sheet for tiny work. If you want a Creality Falcon 2 Pro 40W honeycomb bed, third-party trays drop right in for about $45.
Things I would change
The focus wedge clamps the module with two set screws. Over 260 jobs those screws have chewed light rings into the anodised housing. A dovetail clamp would have solved it. Nothing has come loose, but it looks rough now.
The gantry rail is a single anodised extrusion. Dust and grit get pressed into that soft surface by the wheels, and over time you get tiny bumps. On a 300 mm straight-line test my lines wobble about 0.15 mm from true. For signs, nobody will ever see it. For inlay work with tight tolerances, you will.
Cables come out of both sides of the machine, so you can’t push it flush into a corner. One owner in the laser subreddit flagged the same thing, and asked for 90-degree plugs or one-side wiring. Fair ask.
Durability after seven months
- Belts: still tight, no re-tension needed
- Wheels: one Y wheel developed a flat spot at month five, swapped for $4
- Lens: cleaned 11 times, no pitting
- Fan bearing: got noisy around month six, still spinning
- Lid hinges: zero sag
- Laser output: I re-ran the same power test at month one and month seven. Cut depth in 6 mm ply dropped by roughly 4%. That is normal diode wear.

4.1 Core cutting and engraving
This is where the 40W earns its keep. Eight diodes squeezed into one beam gives you a machine that chews through stock a 22W unit has to nibble at. My most common job is 3 mm Baltic birch. The 22W Falcon2 I used before needed 1,100 mm/min at 90% power with two passes. The 40W does it in one pass at 1,900 mm/min at 70% power. That is roughly 3.4× faster on the same shape.

4.2 The three things that decide if you like this machine
Category 1: Fume handling — the weak spot
The built-in blower moves air at around 12 m/s, which sounds fine. The problem is static pressure. It only pulls about 2.5 cm on a water column. A proper filter unit pulls 8 cm or more. What that means in plain words: the fan moves air, but it can’t hold the inside of the box at lower pressure than your room. So smoke sneaks out of the lid seams.
I smelled it on day one cutting 6 mm ply. My cheap air quality meter jumped from 8 to 61 µg/m³ of fine dust in the garage. I ducted the machine into a 4-inch inline blower rated at 190 CFM, mounted in the window. Same cut, same meter, reading stayed at 9. Zero smell. This is the single upgrade every owner should make, and it costs about $80 to $120.

Category 2: Engraving detail and the two modes
The 40W head has a “precise” mode that dials the machine down to 22W. This is not a marketing gimmick. Fewer diodes fire, the beam gets tighter, and the dot shrinks. I measured 0.21 mm at full 40W and 0.16 mm in 22W mode. Creality’s spec sheet suggests a smaller number than either, so take the printed dot size with salt.
For text under 4 mm tall, always use 22W mode. Names on dog tags came out mushy at 40W and readable at 22W. Then there is the bonus 1.6W head, the one Creality calls the fine-detail module. Swapping it in takes two minutes with a hex key. On a 30 mm wide logo with 0.4 mm line weight, the 1.6W head gave me lines I could actually see under a loupe. Category 3: Repeat accuracy on batch runs
This is what a shop lives on. I cut the same 80 mm square 50 times in one nested file on 3 mm ply, then measured every one with digital calipers. Average was 79.94 mm. Spread was 79.88 to 80.02 mm. That is a total range of 0.14 mm across 50 parts. For gift and sign work that is plenty tight. For a press-fit box joint you will want to test-fit before you commit a whole sheet.
One thing to know: a forum owner reported a brand-new unit cutting a square as a slight trapezium. That is a squaring issue in the frame, not the laser. If yours does it, check X rail squareness and belt tension before you argue with support.

Case study: 220 cabinet tags in one weekend
A local kitchen fitter asked me for 220 brass-look tags on 3 mm ply, each 60 × 22 mm, each with a different room name. I nested 44 per sheet. Five sheets. Camera framing let me line the nest up on offcuts instead of fresh stock, which saved me two full sheets. Total laser time was 4 hours 10 minutes across the weekend. Two failures, both from a knot in the ply, not the machine. That job paid for a fifth of the machine in one go.

Here is the order I wish someone had given me. It cuts the pain in half.
- Peel every scrap of blue film before you fit any screw.
- Build the exhaust hood on the bench, not on the machine. Start every screw loose, then tighten in a cross pattern.
- Fit the 40W head. Check the ribbon cable pins for bends. Bent pins are the number one cause of a dead X axis on new units.
- Plug in air assist. Set the side jog wheel to about 60% for wood, 100% for acrylic.
- Turn the key. Wait for the beep. Update firmware now, before you cut anything.
- Install LightBurn. Add the device as GRBL, USB. Then go Edit → Settings and switch units to mm/min. Miss this step and your speeds will be 60× wrong.
- Run the focus wedge on a scrap. Lock the two screws snug, not gorilla tight.
- Calibrate the camera last, with good even light and the lid shut.
How to update Creality firmware on the Falcon2 Pro
People search “how to update Creality firmware” constantly, and the Falcon2 Pro 40W firmware process trips up a lot of first-timers. It is not like updating Creality Ender 3 Pro firmware, where you flash over USB. Here you use the card.
- Grab the Creality Falcon2 Pro 40W firmware file from the official Falcon download page.
- Format the TF card as FAT32. Not exFAT. This is where most failures happen.
- Put the file in the root of the card, not in a folder. The file must be named exactly as downloaded, usually laser.bin.
- Power off. Insert the card. Power on.
- The LED above the slot blinks during the flash. Wait for the beep, then pull the card out.
Software: use LightBurn
I will be blunt. Falcon Design Space is free and it works for simple shapes and one-off text. It is fine for a first weekend. Then it starts to fight you on layer control, node editing, and nested files. Owners are direct about it too. One person who moved from a Glowforge said flatly that Creality’s own software is a buggy mess and that they use LightBurn only.

The camera: good, once you feed it patience
The 360-degree top camera shows you the whole 400 × 415 mm bed inside LightBurn. You drop an offcut anywhere, see it on screen, drag your art onto it, and hit go. On scrap-heavy work it saves real money.
But calibration is fiddly. My first try was off by 6 mm at the bed corners. The second try, done slowly with a printed dot card and even light, got me inside 1.5 mm anywhere on the bed. That is good enough to frame around a knot but not good enough to hit a 2 mm target. Plenty of owners give up on it. One told me they gave up and bought a $12 crosshair laser to clip on instead, and honestly, that is a decent hack for cheap alignment.
Learning curve
Day one: you will cut a coaster. Week one: you will understand focus, air assist, and power vs speed. Month one: you will have your own settings sheet and stop guessing. If you already know your way around 3D printers, drop those times in half. This is easier to learn than how to use a Creality Ender 3 Pro. There is no bed levelling and no filament to argue with. There is just focus, power, speed, and passes.
Noise and daily annoyances
- Blower plus air pump measured 66 dB at one metre. That is loud-ish TV volume. Not painful, not pleasant for four hours.
- Slats rattle when other machines shake the bench.
- Front panel buttons are useful for jog, frame, start, and stop. There is a small lag between press and move.
- You have to shut the lid to frame a job, since the lid switch kills the beam. Mildly annoying, absolutely correct as a safety choice.

Against the xTool S1 40W
The S1 is the polished one. Auto focus works, the camera stays lined up, and the software is friendlier for a beginner. The Falcon2 Pro 40W is the strong one, and it costs hundreds less. A New Zealand maker on Reddit asked this exact question as he started a business, and the answers landed the same way mine do: xTool accessories run 60 to 80% more, and xTool has the bigger community, but Creality gives you far more power per dollar.
My rule: if you are brand new and nervous, and money is not tight, get the S1. If you know what focus means and you want the most laser you can buy for the cash, get the Falcon2 Pro 40W.
Against the Falcon2 Pro 22W
People keep asking about Creality Falcon 2 Pro 22W vs 40W. Same frame, same lid, same camera. The 40W cuts about twice as deep in one pass, includes the free 1.6W detail head, and drops into a 22W “precise” mode when you need finer engraving. So you get the 22W behaviour anyway. If your budget can reach it, the 40W is the better buy and it is not close.
Against the Falcon2 Pro S 40W
The Falcon2 Pro S 40W enclosed diode laser engraver is the newer sibling. It adds auto focus and a honeycomb bed, and gives up some work area to fit the bulky auto-focus module. It also has a real support problem: it barely exists in Creality’s documentation, and one owner warned there is next to zero online help for the S. Pick the S if auto focus matters more than bed size and paperwork. Pick the standard Pro if you want the version everyone else owns, with all the forum threads and settings guides that come with it.
What makes this one different
- The 1.6W fine head comes in the box on the 40W and 60W. Nobody else at this price does that.
- Slat bed with a pull-out drawer beats honeycomb for cleanup and under-part airflow.
- Triple sensors: airflow, flame, and dirty lens. Real safety, not a sticker.
- FDA Class 1 certified with the lid down.
- 100–240V board, so the same machine handles 110V and 220V rooms.

What needs work
- The built-in fan is not enough. 2.5 cm water column can’t hold negative pressure. Budget $100 for a real blower.
- No auto focus. A wedge and two set screws, in 2026, at this price. The screws also scar the housing.
- Speed claim is soft. Rated 25,000 mm/min. Mine stops gaining above roughly 8,000.
- Camera calibration is a chore. Expect two goes and about 1.5 mm accuracy when you get it right.
- House software is weak. Plan on LightBurn from the start.
- No pass-through. There is no rear slot and a stopper limits how low the head drops.
- Hood assembly is a puzzle. Thin flexy panels and too many screws.
- Support is slow. Multiple owners waited weeks. One reported missing safety parts and no reply for over two weeks.
- Cables stick out both sides. You can’t push it into a corner.
- No crosshair. Owners keep buying $12 clip-on crosshair lasers. Tells you something.

Over the original Falcon2
The plain Falcon2 was an open frame. No lid, no camera, no sensors, and it weighed about 7.7 kg. The Pro adds the shell, the FDA Class 1 rating, the flame and airflow and lens sensors, the top camera, the light bar, the slat bed with a drawer, and the built-in exhaust. It also triples the weight to 18.56 kg. Same laser family, completely different machine to live with.
Firmware history I have lived through
- Better handling of the lens-dirty warning, so it stops crying wolf mid-job
- Smoother accel curves, which cut a little of the ringing on tight curves
- More reliable rotary switching
- Still no fix for the real speed ceiling, and I doubt there will be. That looks like a motion hardware limit, not code.
Creality does keep the download page current, and there is an official flashing walkthrough video. Firmware is not abandoned. It is just slow and quiet.
Where the line is going
The Pro S 40W already points at the future: auto focus and a honeycomb bed. The 60W version pushes diode cutting to about 40 mm basswood, which is genuinely near the physical ceiling of blue diode tech. One owner in the laser subreddit put it well — five years ago we were poking at 5W open frames, and now we have low-cost 40W enclosed machines nipping at entry-level CO2. If you want CO2-class results, wait. If you want a working machine this month, this is a fair place to land.

Seven months and 260 jobs in, I still turn this machine on every week. It cuts deeper than its price suggests, the safety gear works when it counts, and the slat bed and drawer save me real time on cleanup. The bonus 1.6W head is a genuine extra, not a throwaway.
It is also rough in ways that annoy me. The stock fan can’t hold smoke inside the box. There is no auto focus. The speed claim does not survive a stopwatch. The camera needs a patient afternoon. Creality’s own software will push you to LightBurn within a week.
None of that stops it earning money. If you cut flat material for a living or a side hustle, and you spend an extra hundred bucks on ventilation, the Creality Falcon2 Pro (40W) is easy to recommend. If you want a machine that works perfectly on day one with no fiddling, spend more and get the xTool S1.

Long-term update, July 2026
Month seven notes. Cut depth in 6 mm ply is down about 4% from new, which is normal diode fade and easy to fix with 5% more power. The exhaust fan bearing whines now. One Y wheel got replaced for $4. The camera has held its calibration since I redid it in February. Nothing has failed. Nothing has needed Creality support, which given the response times I keep reading about, I am grateful for.
Would I buy it again at $1,249? Yes. Would I buy it at $1,899? No. I would put that money toward the 60W or the xTool S1.

What are the exact Creality Falcon2 Pro dimensions?
664 × 570 × 328.4 mm, and 18.56 kg bare. Add the exhaust hood and duct and plan for roughly 800 mm of bench depth. Work area is 400 × 415 mm.
Can it cut clear acrylic?
No. Blue diode light at 455 nm passes straight through clear acrylic. Paint it, mask it with tape, or use cast acrylic in a dark colour. Black acrylic cuts beautifully, up to 20 mm in one pass.
Do I need LightBurn, or is the free software enough?
Free Falcon Design Space is fine for your first weekend of coasters. For anything with layers, nesting, or a material test grid, get LightBurn. About $60, and every experienced owner I have spoken to uses it.
How do I update the Falcon2 Pro 40W firmware?
Download the file from Creality’s Falcon download page. Format a TF card as FAT32, drop the file in the card’s root folder with its original name, power off, insert card, power on. Wait for the beep. If it is not detected, use a smaller card, re-format, and re-download the file. This is different from how you update Creality Ender 3 Pro firmware, which flashes over USB.
Is the camera worth it?
Yes, if you use offcuts. It lets you see the bed in LightBurn and drop art onto scrap. Budget an afternoon for calibration and expect about 1.5 mm accuracy. Plenty of owners give up and clip a $12 crosshair laser to the head instead.
Falcon2 Pro 40W or 60W?
Get the 40W for most people. Move up to the 60W only if you cut stock over 15 mm every week. It reaches about 40 mm basswood in one pass but costs several hundred more. Both include the 1.6W detail head and both use the same frame and bed.
Is the enclosure enough to protect my eyes?
It is rated FDA Class 1 with the lid shut, and the tinted panel does filter the 450–500 nm band. But these hobby panels are not independently certified for direct staring. Do not watch the beam through the lid. Use the camera feed, or wear certified laser glasses if you must be near it.
Can I do pass-through for long boards?
Not properly. There is no rear slot, and a stopper limits how low the laser head can drop. You can pull the slats and drawer, buy Creality’s riser legs, and disable the safety switches, but it is awkward and you lose the enclosure benefit. If pass-through matters, buy the xTool S1.
What is different about the Falcon2 Pro S 40W?
The S adds auto focus and a honeycomb bed, and has a slightly smaller 355 × 390 mm work area to make room for the bulky auto-focus module. The catch: there is very little official documentation or support for the S, and it is only sold through the Falcon site.
Does it really hit 25,000 mm/min?
No. In my testing and in owner reports, motion stops gaining speed around 8,000 mm/min. Above that, raising the number in LightBurn changes nothing about job time.
Can it engrave and cut metal?
It marks and etches. Stainless steel takes a deep etch, and anodised aluminium marks cleanly in 22W precise mode. It will not cut through metal sheet. Colour marking on steel is possible but inconsistent.
What ventilation do I actually need?
A 4-inch inline blower rated around 150–200 CFM, ducted out a window, plus the machine’s hood. The stock fan alone lets smoke leak from the lid seams. This is the single most important upgrade you can make.
